At my core I’m driven by a deep knowledge that humans are capable of something so much greater than what we’re creating now. I want to see us fulfil our potential and live in a world full of beauty, harmony, and fun!
I grew up in a wealthy family in London, the historic centre of a global empire that is still lurching on to this day. While travelling as a child, I saw people living in poverty, struggling to create a dignified life for themselves and their families. It seemed so unfair that I should have so much and they so little. But I also saw the deep unhappiness of my family and other wealthy families back home. I couldn’t get behind ideas of ‘international development’ or charity, because they were based on a lie that if we helped these people out of poverty they would be happier. It was clear to me that our systems and cultures were not doing the best by humanity.
Over the years I have stumbled across many alternatives: anarchism, ancient yogic traditions, indigenous ways of being and knowing, and most recently Possibility Management. All of these traditions called out to me for the same reason: they enshrine a deep respect for the autonomy and value of every individual, human and non-human, and reject exploitation and dominance in all its forms.
Now I spend my time trying to make this more practical and concrete. How do I show up in my intimate relationships with mutual respect and without dominance? How do I heal the patriarchal wounds that block me from doing that? How do I parent my daughters without coercion and manipulation, so they can grow into liberated and mature adults? How do I be with the people around me to create real, living community with an economy that understands and respects living systems? How do I stay focused on creating what I want, while processing the many feelings that arise from living in an uncertain world faced with crisis and potential collapse?
I don’t have the answers, but I have some ideas, some wonderful teammates, and a whole lot of energy to experiment and create something beautiful and bountiful on Planet Earth!
I have a Substack page, where you can hear more about my adventures and find inspiration for your next steps in creating the world you want to live in!
